Gay Couple Love Home Concept

EXCERPT: CLIPPED WINGS BY SHILOH SADDLER

After a quiet meal, Christopher followed Stephen up a back staircase and down a long hallway. “This is my room. Our room.” He opened the door and Christopher was pleasantly surprised to see it furnished with all the essentials: bed, chest of drawers, washstand with bowl and pitcher and even a small mirror hanging on the wall.

Christopher quickly stripped off his clothes and lounged on top of the covers. Arms folded behind his head, he stared up at the ceiling, struggling to hold back a smile. Stephen’s lustful stare heated him, and it took all of his restraint to not react. He would not make the first move. However, he wouldn’t make it easy to resist his charms. He needed help to get his feathers back, and Stephen might be his ticket to freedom.

“You’re naked.” Stephen’s voice had a raspy quality.

“It is summer. I’m hot-blooded.” Finally, turning to look at him, he offered a shrug. “I hope you don’t mind.”

“No, no of course, not,” Stephen croaked.

Christopher struggled to hold back a laugh. His roommate was not a good liar. “Do you sleep naked, too?”

“No, I…” Stephen swallowed hard and Christopher eyed his bobbing Adam’s apple. “I—I have a nightshirt.”

“Oh.” Christopher tried to keep his disappointment from showing. He could make quick work of that piece of clothing.

Back turned, Stephen changed into his nightshirt and then washed his face and brushed his teeth with tooth powder. It seemed like hours before his weight dipped the mattress, although it was really only a few minutes. Christopher’s heart thumped against his ribcage. He silently appraised Stephen’s prone form and his cock stirred.

Taking a deep breath, he told himself to behave. Nude, it was hard to hide his desire. A smile tugged at his lips. From his searing gaze Stephen had to know he was interested.

Rolling on his side, he got a better look at the man fanning the fire in his stomach. “You’re the most handsome man I’ve ever seen,” he whispered.

Stephen’s eyes widened. “I’m nothing special.”

The self-deprecating words knifed through his heated body. Had Master Randall worn down the man’s confidence? He knew how easily that could happen. His promise not to make the first move went out the window. He’d have to show the man just how he felt. Reaching out, he caressed the man’s cheek.

Instantly the hardness in his expression melted away. After a brief kiss, Stephen’s dark eyes hooded. “Mmm. It has been a long time for me.”

“Me too,” Christopher replied and then kissed him again, this time his tongue plunged inside the man’s sweet mouth.

He wasn’t about to say he was a virgin. Not without explaining the ways of his people. Kissing he could do though.

Stephen moaned. Christopher plumbed his mouth stroke after stroke. The taste of salt and onions lingered on his tongue.

Hand slipping under his nightshirt, Christopher skimmed Stephen’s chest, pinching and twirling one nipple.

Stephen growled and Christopher broke the kiss, a chuckle bubbling up his throat. Fingers straying from his nipple, he grazed the dusting of hair leading lower.

Heat blazed with their skin-to-skin contact. His body thrummed and inside his swan crooned. He felt a deep connection with Stephen, not just a physical one. Finally, what was happening clicked into place. Mate. Stephen was his mate. That’s why he couldn’t control his shifting. He’d needed to be in human form to find his mate.

It felt like a double-edged sword—fate blessing and cursing him at the same time….

After The Fire by Felice Stevens

About the Book

A single bullet destroyed the dreams of Dr. Jordan Peterson. With his lover dead, Jordan descends into an endless spiral of self-destruction that nearly costs him his friends, his career, and his life. When Jordan finds himself working closely with the aloof Lucas Conover, the investment banker’s mysterious past and unexpected kindness shocks him back into a life and emotions he’d thought lost forever.

The betrayal by the foster brother he’d worshiped taught Lucas Conover never to trust or believe in anyone. Living a solitary life couldn’t free him of the nightmare of his former life; it reinforced his belief that he would never fall in love. When the death of one of his clients forces him to work closely with Dr. Jordan Peterson, he meets a person whose suffering exceeds his own. Though Jordan rejects his effort to help, something within Luke pushes him discover more about the first man to ever get under his skin.

As Luke lets down his guard and Jordan lets go of his pain, desire takes control. Each man must come to terms with past struggles if they are to create a future together. And learning to trust in themselves and love again after tragedy and a lifetime of pain may be the only thing that saves them in the end.

Excerpt

“It’s only been nine months. God almighty, did you expect me to forget him already?” Horrified, Jordan swept his hand across the table, sending the empty bottles and food containers crashing to the floor. “Keith and I were together for almost four years. You haven’t even been with Ash a year; could you forget him so easily? Stop pressuring me to move on with my life. It’s over for me. There will never be anyone else.”

“So you plan on drinking yourself into an early grave, losing your job and quite possibly your friends along the way?” Drew placed a hand on his arm. “I don’t think Keith would expect you to mourn him forever.”

“I didn’t expect to have to mourn him at all. He was supposed to be here, with me.” The tears, always threatening below the surface, spilled over, coursing hot and fierce down his cheeks. It seemed he hadn’t stopped crying since Keith had been murdered. “I can’t get past it. No matter what I do, he’s always there with me, and I can’t let him go.” All the fight and anger left him deflated like a balloon several days after a party. An ineffable weariness stole through him, and he laid his head on his arms on top of the table. “Go home, you two. Leave me alone.”

Without a word, Ash found the broom and dustpan and began to clean up the broken glass while Drew remained seated next to Jordan at the table.

“Look, I understand what you’re feeling. But destroying yourself isn’t going to bring him back. We know you miss him.”

“You don’t understand.” Jordan shook off Drew’s attempt to comfort him. “I’m beginning to forget him. Not only his voice but also the way his arms held me. The way the sound of his breathing calmed me so I could fall asleep every night.” His breath caught in his throat, and a shudder racked his body.

Jordan couldn’t reveal the worst—that he could no longer recall the press of Keith’s lips on his or the sweet sweep of Keith’s tongue in his mouth. The warmth and smoothness of Keith’s skin, once as familiar as Jordan’s own, had begun fading to a cold and distant memory. Sometimes he’d sit in bed late at night and play his voicemail messages simply to hear Keith’s voice. How fucking disloyal a love was he? It had only been nine months, yet Keith’s touch, something he’d longed for every day of his life and sworn he’d never forget, had slipped away like fog in the summer wind. Gentle and swift, leaving no trace behind that it had ever existed.

About the Author

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner, My characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love, but getting there is oh so fun and oh so sexy.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass (or two of red wine). I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there are bound to be a few bumps along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

BLURB:

This book is a biography of a woman I have loved and admired for the whole of my life.

In December 1944 a German family of seven were captured and convicted of war crimes for harbouring Jews.

I have known this story for most of my life. In the twilight of her years, this lady has decided that it is time for her story to be told, so it will be recorded for future generations.

The woman and her sister were interned in Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp until Liberation on 13 April 1945.

This is a true account of her experience.

GERMANY 1939

The house looked the same as every other dwelling in the street. Two story, attached, weathered stone. There were three bedrooms and a bathroom with indoor plumbing upstairs. An attic, where family treasures were hidden, could only be accessed through a removable panel in the ceiling of the main bedroom closet. Downstairs was a small but adequate dine in kitchen, a sitting room and a storeroom. Inside the storeroom was a staircase which led down to a basement.

The house sat opposite the banks of the Leine River. It was home to Inga Albine and her family. She had one older sister, two older brothers and one younger brother. They loved summer when they could swim and play in the water.

Inga’s father, Adaulfo, was a well-known and successful Banker. An unusual occupation for an Aryan as most Bankers were Jewish.

Inga’s mother, Alisz, was a talented seamstress but with her husband being more than capable of providing for the family, sewing was a hobby rather than a chore. Although sewing gave her a great deal of joy, her first love was her family. She adored being with her children.

Being only children, both Alisz and Adaulfo had always dreamed of having a large family. Their dream had come true. They had five healthy children, blonde haired, blue eyed. Perfect Aryans in Adolf Hitler’s eyes. Klaus, 18, Manfred 17, Elke 15, Inga 13 and Oskar 8. The girls and Oskar attended private school while the two older boys studied Engineering. They all played the violin and with the exception of Oskar, they played very well. Neighbours often praised Adaulfo and Alisz on how polite and well-mannered all five children were.

The family were prominent in the local community. They never hesitated to help people who were less fortunate than themselves.

That was to be their downfall…..

Midnight Caller re-release #historical #interracial Romance by @haleywhitehall

Midnight Caller eBook Cover Large

5 lessons learned from re-releasing Midnight Caller.

  1. A book can always be improved. Authors become blind to errors after reading and editing a manuscript many times. Let it sit (published) for two years and read it again. Errors will become obvious, and there might be major things about the story you would like to change, too. A re-release is your chance to make your story better.

  1. Interracial cover images are really hard to find whether you are looking for contemporary romance or historical. Rely on the expertize of a cover designer if you are writing in the interracial or multicultural genre. It will save you a big headache and hours of scanning stock image sites.

  1. In the course of writing a series often the idea or arc of the whole series will become clearer. Re-releasing the books will give you the opportunity to set the foundation you didn’t know you needed when you first started. Book 1 becomes even more important than it was before.

  1. As the series grows many secondary characters might beg for their own book. Re-releasing previous books in the series gives you the ability to develop these secondary characters, so that readers following the series will already know them when their book finally comes. It will also make writing their story easier as you, as the author, will also know the character.

  1. Many ebook publishers do not release boxed sets with books in a series. Boxed sets are popular and will add to your backlist. Investing in edits and new cover design does not only go toward the single book, but also to the boxed set edition(s) you can release through self-publishing.

Excerpt:

Frederick licked his lips, drew a deep breath, and knocked on the door. No one answered. Had she heard him? He waited, staring at the back yard. The barn roof could use patching. The woodpile wasn’t well stocked, and the fence marking the property line had a few rotten and leaning posts. Good signs he was going to be with a widow. The bright spot was a well-kept rose garden, many of the flowers climbing and intertwining on a tall trellis against the side of the house. The sweet perfume mixed with the fresh night air. He breathed in deeply. A pleasant feeling bloomed in his stomach.

The door finally opened. Frederick whirled around and found himself face-to-face with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was young, couldn’t be much more than twenty, her black hair cascading past her shoulders with a slight wave. She had an ample bosom for her petite frame, the day dress she wore showing off every curve. The red color made her tanned skin look paler. Her hazel eyes seemed so innocent Frederick wondered what he was doing here at all.

“I was told you wanted company,” Frederick said. Why didn’t this woman have every man in town chasing after her?

She offered a tentative smile and opened the door further. “Yes. Please come in.”

Frederick stepped into the house and she softly shut the door behind him. Walking around him, her skirts brushed his side, making his stomach clench. She stood in front of him and assessed him as she peeked through her lashes, working her way down his frame.

He bowed. “My name is Frederick, ma’am. I am at your service.” His toes tensed in anticipation. This was going to be the best night of his life.

The woman shifted her weight and pushed a strand of black hair behind her ear. Nervous energy filled the room. He knew he was a massive man; hopefully the slight woman was not intimidated. She motioned for him to follow her. They walked through the kitchen into the dining room. “Have a seat.”

Frederick slid a chair back from the table and sat. He wanted to drink in her beauty, but that was not polite. He kept his eyes on the table.

“Would you like tea, coffee? Or perhaps brandy from my late husband’s liquor cabinet?”

“Coffee would be fine, ma’am. Thank you.” Some of his clients had him take his clothes off the minute he walked through the door. This woman was a slow mover. He liked that.

Unfortunately, she moved so slow he didn’t even know her name.

She brought him a cup of coffee and sat next to him, drinking a cup herself.

A few awkward moments passed with the two of them stealing glances at each other. He felt eager and uncomfortable, like he was a youth chasing the girls around the plantation yard all over again. The coffee, strong just the way he liked it, gave him the burst of energy he needed. It glided into his stomach with a bitter kick. This pretty young woman would give him more exercise than the old widows he usually visited.

“My name is Emma,” she said. “Emma Bennett.” She blushed, her cheeks a delicious red. “I’ve never done anything like this before.”

“You have nothing to fear, ma’am.” Frederick smiled. “I am here to please you.”

Blurb:

Life without love is painful, but in the Reconstruction Era South forbidden fruit can be deadly. A fiery romance between a widow and an African American man has more consequences than either of them imagined.

Slavery has ended, but racial prejudice remains in Kentucky. Emma Bennett guards a secret that could destroy her life. Until now she never considered the price of her security. Becoming a well-respected member in Louisville had seemed a dream come true, but at what cost?

Her husband’s death from a carriage accident releases Emma from her loveless, controlling marriage. Now she has a chance to find happiness and raise a family. But before she begins courting again she wants to experience her freedom. At the advice of the leading socialite in town, she takes a black lover to fulfill her sexual needs. His raw masculine power awakens feelings she didn’t know existed. After the first touch, she craves more.

Frederick works as a roustabout by day and moonlights as a prostitute. He knows better than to fall in love with his white client, but Emma enchants him the first time he calls on her. To keep them both safe, he works hard to put up barriers. Unfortunately, he can’t protect Emma from the slimy Mr. Hawthorne, who wants her as his bride. Frederick vows to keep her safe even if his forbidden love costs him his life.
