Vampires have a curious history that varies from country to country. In the United States, I’ve read many stories whey they’ve appeared in the Old West. There’s something romantic about vampires and carriages, old fashioned sitting rooms, brocade drapes and smoking jackets. They just seem to fit right in! In Haley’s story, a vampire is the last chance to save a woman who’s dying – if she’ll agree to become his consort!
Vampire Consort by Haley Whitehall
Mary only has months to live. Her doctor gives her an option: prepare her funeral or agree to an arranged marriage with his vampire son.
“Kneel down my dear,” the vampire in charge ordered.
Heart thumping wildly, she did so and for the first time noticed the cold heat radiating from Logan. She struggled to remain kneeling upright occasionally supporting herself with one hand on the carpet.
The officiant took the silk rope off from around his neck and silently bound her right wrist and his left wrist so that they were tied together.
“Do you Paul Vincent Briar take this woman Mary Louise Mosley to be your consort from this day forward? Do you promise to honor and cherish her and offer your life blood for her substance?”
Logan’s gentle voice surprised her. He acted like he was nervous.
“Do you Mary Louise Mosley take this vampire Logan Vincent Briar to be your mate from this day forward? Do you promise to honor and cherish him and offer your life blood for his sustenance?”
She swallowed around the lump in her throat. Life blood. “I do.”
“Please exchange blood in front of all these gathered witnesses to seal your union from now until eternity.”
Mary’s eyes widened and she stared up at the nameless vampire in charge. Logan was going to suck her blood now?
